Your First International Trip: A Complete Checklist
2 min read

Going abroad for the first time feels like a lot of paperwork. Break it into steps and it becomes manageable.
Months before: documents
Check that your passport has enough validity and blank pages, as many countries require several months of validity beyond your travel dates. Then look up the visa rules for your destination: some offer e-visas or visa on arrival, others need an advance application through an embassy.
Weeks before: bookings and money
Book flights and hotels with free-cancellation options where you can, and keep digital and printed copies of everything. Ask your bank about international card use and carry a small amount of local currency for your arrival.
Days before: the final checks
Buy travel insurance, check baggage allowances, download offline maps and save emergency contacts. Share your itinerary with a family member.
- Visa and entry rules change often; always confirm on the official government site. Rules, entry requirements, weather and prices change, so confirm the latest details with official sources before you book.
- Pack a power adapter for your destination.
- Keep medicines in original packaging with a doctor's note if needed.
