Seasonal Travel
Himachal Pradesh: Summer or Winter?
2 min read

Himachal Pradesh is a destination for every season, but the experience is very different in summer and winter. Here is how to decide.
Summer: green, cool and busy
From April to June the hill towns are a welcome escape from the plains. Mall Road strolls, river activities and mountain drives are at their best, though popular spots can be crowded and hotel rates rise.
Winter: snow and quiet
From December to February, higher areas receive snow and the mood is cosy, with fireplaces and warm meals. Some high passes close, so itineraries need flexibility. Roads can be slow in bad weather, so keep a buffer day.
Our suggestion
First-time visitors who want easy sightseeing usually enjoy spring or autumn. Snow chasers should aim for mid-winter, and trekkers for late summer after the monsoon retreats.
- Check road conditions and permits for higher valleys before travelling.
- Carry layers in every season; evenings are cool even in summer.
- Allow extra time for mountain roads rather than packing in too many stops.
