Seasonal Travel
Best Time to Visit Kashmir: Season by Season
2 min read

Kashmir changes dramatically through the year, so the best time depends on what you want to see. The valley is a year-round destination, but each season has a different personality.
Spring (March to May)
Spring brings blossom and, usually in late March or April, the opening of the tulip garden in Srinagar. Days are mild, which makes it ideal for shikara rides, gardens and gentle sightseeing.
Summer (June to August)
When much of India is hot, Kashmir is green and pleasant. Meadows such as Pahalgam and Sonamarg are at their best, and high-altitude treks open up. Expect this to be the busiest period, so book stays early.
Autumn and winter
Autumn (September to November) turns chinar leaves red and gold and brings clear skies and softer crowds. Winter (December to February) is for snow lovers, with Gulmarg a popular base for skiing and gondola rides. Pack serious warm layers.
- Check current travel advisories and road conditions before you finalise dates.
- Book houseboats and winter stays well ahead of peak weeks.
- Carry some cash, as mobile coverage and card acceptance can be patchy in remote areas.
