Bali for First-Timers: Where to Stay and What to Do
2 min read

Bali packs temples, rice terraces, surf beaches and wellness retreats onto one small island. The trick is choosing where to base yourself so you spend less time in traffic.
Ubud: culture and countryside
Ubud is the island's cultural heart, with art galleries, dance performances, yoga studios and views over rice terraces. It is a good base for temple visits and cooking classes.
Seminyak and Canggu: beaches and cafés
If you want sunsets, beach clubs and restaurants, the southwest coast is lively. Canggu leans younger and more casual; Seminyak is a little more polished.
Uluwatu and Nusa islands
Uluwatu has dramatic clifftop views and surf. Boat trips to Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan make a good day or overnight add-on.
- Traffic on the island can be slow; split your stay between two bases rather than commuting.
- Dress modestly at temples and carry a sarong.
- The dry season is roughly April to October; confirm weather and entry requirements. Rules, entry requirements, weather and prices change, so confirm the latest details with official sources before you book.
